Greetings,
Welcome to the Gloria Dei
Evangelical Lutheran Church web site. Allow me to take this opportunity
to share a little about our community.
We trace our heritage back to
1836 when the early Lutheran settlers in Madison Township of Clinton County,
Indiana built a log church a few miles from where our present building stands
on the west side of Mulberry, Indiana. Over the last hundred and
seventy plus years our faith community has included several Lutheran and
Reformed congregations in different parts of Northwestern Clinton
County, and was known
generally as the Mulberry Lutheran Parish. Gloria Dei Evangelical
Lutheran Church is the heir to this rich and vital legacy of faith and
service to God and the community.
Today we honor our religious
forbearers by continuing their work. Worship remains at the heart of
our congregation; we gather for worship each Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Our
services maintain a liturgical style but vary in form each Sunday of the
month. We celebrate communion on the first and third Sundays and the
fourth Sunday is a contemporary service. We also value Christian
education; Sunday School is offered for all ages each Sunday at 9:00
a.m. On Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. we meet to study a book of the Bible,
to explore the seasons of the year, such as Advent or Lent, or to investigate
some aspect of spirituality.
What ties our activities
together? Our mission statement gives us our focus: We are a fellowship
of Christians committed to: Helping our community experience a new life with
Jesus. And why do we do this? Our name explains our motivation:
Gloria Dei, for the glory of God.
